Pick-up Trucks don't come any cooler than this 1949 Dodge Power Wagon. This one is heading to auction with Premier Auction Group

Produced in various forms from 1945 through 1981, Dodge’s Power Wagon has endured the test of time with sheer tenacity. An absolute icon of post-war Americana, the first proper Dodge go-anywhere, do-anything pickup truck boasts a rugged mantra that modern counterparts would kill for.

The truck’s definitive design and unrelenting drivetrain carved a path through the automotive landscape, opening the floodgates for Ford, Chevrolet and GMC to follow. Showcasing a design that revolved around purpose and practicality, the Power Wagon remains top of the bucket list for most collectors with a palate for adventure.

Problem is, it’s often difficult to find a good one. Tough as they may be, most first-generation Power Wagons have been worked into the ground or left to rot in the corner of a far-flung bog. However, Premier Auction Group have this dark green beauty heading under the hammer, and it’s absolutely perfect.

Pop the hood and you’ll find an original, date correct, 230CI T137 inline-six cylinder engine, mated to a rebuilt 4-speed manual gearbox and 2-speed transfer case. Both the front and rear Power Take Offs function without protest, while the original Braden PTO Winch operates as new.

It’s as basic as they come and practically unstoppable off-road, so don’t expect any creature comforts. There’s room for three (at a push) within the cabin, sat upon vinyl seats with keep-fit ‘manual crank windows’ for company and a basic array of gauges and dials – all of which are original in this example.

As a former US Department of Parks & Agriculture Vehicle, you would be forgiven for assuming that the steel body and floor had seen better days. Yet, the tin worm has been kept at bay – even the paintwork shines as though factory fresh.

That’s because the auction vehicle has been given a full restoration with incredible attention to detail, preserving originality for a complete time warp experience. Open the door, step on in and turn the ignition for a drive straight from 1949.
