While the styling is all Buick, what’s under the hood goes much further.

Old Buicks are amazingly beautiful machines, and this 1955 Buick Century Custom certainly is no exception. While it’s obvious the exterior and interior have had some unique work done on them, this car is packing some serious muscle for an all-around amazing experience.

The mechanicals on this beast push beyond what you’ll find on a regular ’55 Buick Century. You get plenty of power at your command, thanks to a rebuilt 425ci Buick Nailhead working with a Rochester 4 barrel carburetor and Compu-Fire electronic ignition. Before hitting the rear wheels with a fury, all that power goes through a Turbo 400 automatic transmission, so you can keep both hands on the steering wheel. There’s also a 9-inch Ford rear end, which is beefy enough to handle that setup. An air ride suspension allows you to raise and lower the ride height so you’re not scraping bottom anywhere.

As you can see, both the exterior and interior of this Buick are just immaculate. The car went through a complete body-off restoration about 20 years ago and has since been well maintained. Most noticeable is the distinct House of Kolor exterior paint on the roof and lower body is Green Shimrin, while the rest of the body wears a unique mix of Green Shimrin and Organic Green. You’ll notice the paint shimmers when the light hits, thanks to metallic flakes, which is a nice touch. All the right brightwork and wide whitewall tires match that glitzy look.

How do you match that kind of classy aesthetics for the interior? This car comes with white pleated leather upholstery and metallic green piping. There’s also a perforated white leather headliner to really pour on the luxurious looks. On top of that, plenty of amenities like a Vintage Air air conditioning system, power brakes, power steering, plus noise insulation so you can cruise on the highway in peace.

Called the hot rod Buick, the Series 60 Buick Century was glamorous and fast for its time. It was favored by tuners and law enforcement, plus glamourized by television shows and movies. Some lucky person will have the pleasure of owning this American classic car, all thanks to GR Auto Gallery.
