1977 Porsche 911 Strosek Puts A Spin On A Beloved Original

Pretty much everyone has at least a healthy respect for the Porsche 911. Even if you’re not a fan of the rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive GT, there’s no denying the long-lasting appeal of the car. That’s why it’s fun to look at this 1977 Porsche 911 Strosek. While there’s mistaking it for a 911, some well-done modifications make it look so unique and fun.

Both the front and rear fascias have been made over in a big way on this Porsche. One of the most striking changes are the tiny round headlights, which funny enough almost look like what you can find on a second-generation Acura Integra, and that’s really not a bad thing. A silky-smooth black coat of paint catches the light just so, hugging every curve on this German beauty. This 911 rolls on five-spoke dished wheels which are chromed out, adding some nice bling.

While the seller doesn’t list anything in the way of technical specs, the car original came with a 2.7-liter flat-six engine. Some Strosek-modified 911s also gained interior upgrades, but there’s no indication the light tan scheme visible in the photo did.

Many collectors have overlooked the mid-1970s for the 911. That was because from 1975 to 1977 Porsche was in a pinch to meet rapidly tightening emissions standards and it turned to increased operating temperatures as a solution. The 911 from this period had fewer fan blades than before, keeping the engine running hotter, while a thermal reactor burned the exhaust gases. That solution meant many 911s from the mid-70s didn’t surpass 75,000 miles without getting a donor engine or being shipped to the junkyard. This means there are few of these cars today, making them quite rare.

Strosek Design is a German company that’s been around since 1971. Its focus has been on providing fresh layouts for Porsches, similar to what Ruf and Gemballa have done, but the Strosek name isn’t known nearly as much.
