This low-mileage NX250 was very sophisticated for its time, making it a great performer on or off-road.

Motorcyclists know about the pains of choosing a particular breed of bike all too well. Picking between a sports or off-road bike is a tricky decision, and one that you’re going to have to live with. Sometimes in life you just want to have your cake and eat it, and in 1988 Honda presented a bike that allowed you to do just that. The NX250 delivered the best of both worlds.

This 1990 Honda NX250 in our classifieds is a prime example of the go anywhere bike that was a riot to ride both on and off-road. Powered by a liquid cooled engine and a six-speed transmission, this lightweight motorcycle appears in excellent condition with just 8,060 miles on the clock.

Finished in a sporty combination of teal and white, this bike features a practical Givi top case and removable wind shield. Its 249cc engine is perfect for sport bike riding, but also provides the required grunt for climbing obstacles when off the beaten path.

The NX250 helped popularised the notion of ‘adventure bike’ in America and offered more sophistication than your typical dirt bike of the era. It had an electric starter in place of a kick-start, six gears made it more refined at speed, and the 26 HP engine was water-cooled. 0-60mph could be cracked in 6.2 seconds with this bike being able to charge onto a top speed of 87mph. Today collectors are starting to see the value in this go-anywhere Japanese bike.

A recent service on the bike in question included fresh synthetic oil, new air filter, battery, spark plugs, and new Bridgestone tires. It carries a clean California title and comes with the aforementioned accessories for $9,500.

Finding such a Honda NX250 in this condition, and with such low mileage, is becoming harder each day. Maybe it’s time to add this hardy Honda to your collection?
