This Viper has spent its life in a climate controlled room and has only clocked 19k miles. Now it could be yours

Since its untimely departure from the automotive landscape, the Dodge Viper has become of keen interest to collectors - particularly first generation cars. A pristine low-mileage example of the V10 American icon is up for sale at this weekend’s Greensboro Auto Auction. It’s sure to get plenty of attention as it rumbles onto the auction block.

This Viper has only clocked 19,000 miles from new and has been kept in a climate controlled garage since it was delivered to its first owner. It comes complete with its often fiddly targa top and side curtains that can shelter the open interior from the elements.

Finished in the traditional shade of red and upholstered with a grey leather interior, this car appears in concours condition. Being a 1995 model, it is actually one of the last first generation SR I Vipers made before the model was replaced with the SR II in 1996.

The Dodge Viper was designed to be a modern-day Shelby Cobra competitor created by the Chrysler Design Center. Powered by a 400-horsepower V10 engine developed with the help of Lamborghini, this sports car can get from 0-60mph in just 4.2 seconds! Much of that performance was gained through its lightweight construction of tubular steel and fiberglass. It was a simplistic design, but a potent performance car that people of the 1990s aspired to own.

It earned a fearsome reputation for being a tricky car to drive at speed, mainly thanks to a total lack of driver aids, but it cemented itself as part of car culture for over two decades. Sadly, production of this V10 monster ended in 2014.

This seemingly factory fresh example represents genesis for the Dodge Viper, making for a great addition to any performance car collection. It will go under the hammer on Friday March 1 2019.
