Yes, the lights and sirens actually work.

While there are plenty of cool Galaxies out there to collect, this 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Mayberry Police Car is probably the most unique of the bunch. Customized to look like what Andy Griffith and his small police force drove, this is the kind of car that will really draw looks of amazement and throngs of admirers no matter where you choose to take it.

The black-and-white paint scheme, sheriff’s star on the front doors, huge CB antenna, plus the large gumball light attached to the roof make this an unmistakable replica of the beloved television show’s police cruisers. This car also has all those fun styling details which ruled American car design in the early 1960s, including afterburner taillights, a super wide grille, smooth lines everywhere you look.

Not only is the exterior in excellent shape, the tan interior looks immaculate. Either the upholstery, carpeting, and other materials are original, or someone went to great lengths to recreate what Ford used for the 1962 model year. Everything on the dash, door panels, and steering wheel is functional and whole, so there’s nothing which looks out of place or incomplete in this cruiser. There are retro switches for the lights and sirens, as well as a Motorola radio and functional spotlight, just in case.

Sure, the classic looks of this Ford Galaxie 500 is great, but it’s also a fun car to drive. A 292ci V8 is great for a pursuit situation, although in Mayberry that’s likely only reserved for getting home to supper on time after a long shift. Under the hood is quite presentable, complete with freshly-painted orange engine block, air topper, and valve covers. The three-speed automatic transmission makes driving this classic easy, while an aluminum radiator means you can lead the Fourth of July parade and not have to worry about overheating the engine.

Streetside Classics is offering the ultra-unique chance to own this highly collectible, nostalgic-filled ’62 Ford Galaxie 500 Mayberry Police Car.
