The sheer amount of well-preserved old cars in this video is simply staggering.

This vintage video demonstrates that Classic Car Club of America has been around for some time. A participant took footage of a CARavan event held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin back in 1957. In the video, you see the various cars tooling down city streets and convening, their owners emerging to socialize and check out one another’s rides.

CCCA CARavans are driving tours held each year at different locations around the United States. Various regions will put on their own CARavans, allowing members to participate without having to travel too far. It’s a chance for classic car owners to get to know each other, plus show off their well-preserved rides to each other and the public in general. This particular CARavan in Milwaukee stops at several locations, including a gas station and the Sheraton Dewitt Motel.

Quite an array of classics is represented, and many of those vehicles are very old by today’s standards. You might spot numerous Packards, Studebakers, Plymouths, and other now-extinct brands mixed in with Fords, Chevrolets, Chryslers, and more. That makes sense, considering in 1957 many cars were consider classics today were either newer or hadn’t even been made. Keep in mind the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Chevelle, and Dodge Charger hadn’t even been introduced to the world, to name a few automotive titans. The cars in attendance are in amazingly pristine condition, at least from what the grainy video quality indicates.

Another thing of interest is how the people riding and driving the cars are dressed. The men are wearing button-up, long-sleeve shirts and slacks, while the women don dresses and head scarfs. You can tell this CARavan is quite formal, like how people used to dress up before boarding airplanes back then. It’s such a stark contrast to the relaxed fashion attitudes of today, or car meets where clothing almost seems minimal if not optional.
