The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was manufactured between 1959 and 1974. The name was used for the top models in The Blue Oval’s full-size lineup from 1958 until 1961. It was actually a marketing strategy to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race at the time. For 1962, all full-size Ford vehicles wore the Galaxie badge, with the higher series models sporting the “500” and “500/XL” insignia. The Ford Galaxie was a competitor to the high-volume full-sized and ever-popular Chevrolet Impala.

This 1965 Galaxie 500XL is dressed in the factory configuration of Springtime Yellow paint over a black vinyl interior. The exterior and interior are in immaculate condition and show minimal wear, given the age of the car. The chrome exterior trim adds to the classy look of the Galaxie and complements the 17-inch chrome American Racing wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich tires. The contrasting black interior is in great shape and all of the options function as they should. Chrome and wooden accents can be found in the cabin to further the luxury appeal.

Contrary to popular belief, the XL in Galaxie actually means “Xtra Lively” and does not denote a larger car. The XL models were the performance level trim for the Galaxie range. This Galaxie two-door hardtop coupe is powered by a powerful 390 cubic-inch 6.4-liter V8 engine that is paired to a smooth 4-speed manual transmission. Everything from the engine bay to the trunk is super tidy and shows that the owner really took care of it. Not only does this car run and drive like a dream, but it’s also a lot of fun.
