Enjoy Summer Cruising in this 1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible

The Volkswagen Karmann Ghia is an interesting vehicle – it uses mechanical components from the original Volkswagen Beetle, while the exterior consists of Italian design from Turin’s Carrozzeria Ghia and handcrafted bodywork from now-defunct German coachbuilder Karmann. Assembled later towards the later end of the model’s production, this 1973 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Convertible should be a quality driver.

Texas Best Used Motorcycles from Mansfield, Texas offers this neat Volkswagen for sale. They mention that this example has a handful of modifications and that approximately 12 years ago, the vehicle received a restoration. While the car seems to be in generally excellent shape, the seller mentions the paint has some nicks and rock chips, but there’s nothing present that should scare an interested buyer away.

The exterior of this Karmann Ghia sports a black paint job, which was part of the restoration that also included new floor pans and a new convertible top. The interior features an aftermarket sound system with an amp and door speakers, as well as bits from a Porsche 944, including the tachometer and the seats. Last but not least, a pair of Empi-style alloy wheels and Goodyear tires tie the exterior of this Volkswagen together.

Unfortunately, the true mileage on this convertible is unknown, but there are approximately 26,000 miles on the restoration. However, late air-cooled engine expert “Boston Bob” Donalds built the engine in this Karmann Ghia before his passing in 2008, with the powerplant featuring upgrades such as dual port heads, a Bosch blue line ignition coil, and a Kadron carburetor setup. The built engine pairs to a 4-speed manual transmission to drive the rear wheels, and it also recently received a tune-up and an oil change.
