This Pastellblau 1976 BMW 2002 Is Ready For Auction

It’s always been a dream of mine to own one of BMW’s 02 Series models, but unfortunately, it remains an unfulfilled aspiration. One particular 2002 that slipped through my hands was a pastellblau ‘76 2002, which was sitting and becoming dilapidated in the original owner’s driveway. Unfortunately, after corresponding back and forth for a bit, the owner decided to hold onto their vehicle. While that 2002 still remains in the aforementioned driveway, this 1976 BMW 2002 sports the same exterior hue, and it’s in much better shape than the one I came across years ago.

Saratoga Auto Auction in Saratoga Springs, New York offers this 2002 for auction. The photos show a very clean late-model 2002.

The seller offers that the car is rust free and the pictures seem to back that story up. As mentioned earlier, the exterior on this example is a shade known as “pastellblau,” which is one of the many striking and attractive colors BMW offered on the model. In general, the exterior seems to be pristine, which makes the addition of some more modern aftermarket wheels a confusing one. Personally, I’d love to see the next owner of this 2002 install a smaller and more period-correct wheel setup.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find a simple but very clean interior. Though there are a few cracks in the dash and an aftermarket stereo, the cabin appears to be mostly original, and I personally love the gray and black cloth upholstery.

Under the hood, there’s a carbureted 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine, which pairs to a 4-speed manual transmission to drive the rear wheels. The seller claims that the 76,520 miles on the 5-digit odometer are the true and actual miles on this vehicle and its drivetrain.
