It’s had the same owner for over 15 years.

If you’ve been in the market for a T-bird, then you may not have to look any further. This 1955 Ford Thunderbird Convertible is a pristine first-gen example of the famous two-seater. It was Ford’s stylish offering for the growing sporty market and a response to the 1953 Motorama display at the New York Auto Show, which displayed the Chevy Corvette. The Corvette, on the other hand, was developed to compete with the popularity of European sports cars among American consumers.

The now-famous 1955 Thunderbird is regarded as a highly sought-after classic and luxury cruiser that turns heads on every road and at every car show. This Raven Black example has had the same owner for the last 15-plus years. It has also been babied and sparingly driven for approximately 500 miles since it was purchased. The car was well taken care of, professionally maintained, and garage kept. The correct “A” code exterior was restored more than 17 years ago and is still in immaculate condition, which is especially difficult for black paint cars. The porthole hardtop was added as a personal accent. The Kelsey Hayes wire wheels wrapped in wide whitewall radial rubber gives a nice contrast to the lustrous black exterior.

The black-and-white interior is also in an excellent state and looks as though it was just finished. It is clean and devoid of any unusual wear and tear, especially given the fact that this T-bird is over 60 years old. Under the hood is Ford’s proven 292 cubic-inch Y-block V8 mated to a Fordomatic automatic transmission. For added reliability, a carburetor and 12-volt alternator charging system were installed.

The car fires right up and drives as it should. The doors, hood, and trunk fit well and operate with ease. This 1955 Ford Thunderbird was purchased by a loving wife in North Carolina in 2004 for her husband. The two of them enjoyed frequenting car shows and local cruise-ins. Unfortunately, her husband passed away in 2006 and the wife decided to give the car up so someone else could enjoy their beloved “Baby Bird.” This car needs nothing but gasoline to be driven and a loving soul who wants to make this part of their garage.
