There’s no denying the appeal of classic Lotus cars, although they can be fairly pricey to buy. You can get the look of one combined with whatever engine you can shoehorn into this 2018 Birkin Rolling Chassis. Don’t call it a blank canvas, because you’re already getting a lot of car in this tiny package.

For starters, this Birkin has killer aesthetic appeal. Not only does the body have plenty of styling akin to the great Lotus Seven, it’s been painted Black and Gold. That color scheme harkens back to Lotus racers past and present, so there’s an immediate connection big time Lotus fans will feel. The seller says the paint process is of high quality and wasn’t exactly cheap, so you’re not getting something that will just flake off after a few short years. You get to choose what wheels you want on the car, with many available, including the gold split five-spoke wheels in the pictures. A range of tires are also available, which is nice since we all have preferences.

Then there’s the actual chassis. While it’s fairly simple, you don’t have to worry about installing all kinds of basic items like with some options. Two black seats are pictured, while the seller says several others are available. You also get a racing steering wheel, black-faced gauges with gold surrounds, and basic buttons for the horn, emergency lights, etc.

Of course, there’s no engine. While you can drop whatever engine your heart so desires that actually fits, the seller is offering to install one of several options in the car. There’s even the option of ordering something supercharged.

If you aren’t familiar with Birkin, that’s ok. The brand has been around since 1983 and has gained a solid reputation internationally. Based in South Africa, you might not see too many of them in North America. Just know these cars are created in the spirit of giving people a pure motorsports experience with a simple yet elegant vehicle. You can buy this rolling chassis and even have the build completed through Texas Motor Works.
