This is the civilian version of the vehicle that won a world war.

Some people are happy driving a cushy SUV that might get stuck in two inches of sand. If you’re looking for something more hardcore and yet highly collectible, this 1945 Jeep CJ-2A is absolutely perfect. Everyone will immediately recognize this famous off-roader. It can be used to traverse trails, gather crowds at car shows, or even to lead the neighborhood Fourth of July parade.

Army Green both outside and in, this Jeep really looks like something you’d take to war. The construction is simple yet distinct, With that iconic slotted grille and round headlights up front, a fold-down windshield, removable top, no doors, and the full-size spare mounted on the rear. You’ll also notice there are four grab handles, similar to the ones used on the military versions to lift and carry the Jeeps out of difficult terrain, if necessary. A recovery shovel is mounted to the driver’s side and there’s a jerrycan on the rear by the spare.

Providing reliable power on the road or trail is a 2.2-liter inline four-cylinder engine. While it’s not a huge engine, keep in mind this Jeep isn’t exactly heavy. It also comes with a rugged four-wheel-drive system and the ability to make it through all kinds of conditions. Making this rig even more entertaining to drive is the T-90 3-speed manual transmission. While Jeep CJs are considered quite reliable, they are also easy to fix and maintain.

While this was a civilian-spec Jeep when it rolled off the production line after the close of World War II, it’s been modified to match the military versions. Among those modifications are headlights, paint, and seats all military-spec. Since this is the first production year for civilian Jeeps, this is absolutely an important vehicle with plenty of significance. GR Auto Gallery has presented us with the chance to own this piece of American history.
