Meet the "21st" L-88 Corvette

In 1967, Chevrolet built only 20 L-88 Corvettes as high-powered, stripped-down street cars ready for the track, and these cars are among the rarest and most valuable Corvettes of all time. Getting your hands on a real L-88 will take deep pockets and probably some good connections on top of that, but this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L-88 Tribute will give you all of the show and go of a true L-88 without the seven-figure price tag.

As clean as this 'Vette is, the L-88 was more about the details that made the car lighter, faster and stronger, and this car has been painstakingly upgraded with all of the original equipment of a true L-88. That starts under the hood with the correct 427 CID V-8, which was underrated at 430 horsepower and has a 6,500-rpm redline backed by the M22 four-speed manual transmission. This car's engine has all of the accurate elements of the L-88 engine, too, including the block and casting numbers, 12.5:1 compression, aluminum heads and intake, Holley 850 CFM carburetor and the cowl-induction air cleaner.

The engine compartment is precise right down to the minor details such as the fan shroud delete and heater core block-off plate, but this car doesn't stop there. To withstand track abuse, the L-88 was also equipped with a posi-traction rear end with 4.56 gears, J50 power brakes and J56 heavy duty brakes, and, you guessed it, this tribute car has them all, too!

Inside, the center stack is devoid of the radio and heat since the L-88 package deleted both, it even has the correct shifter and tachometer that the factory L-88s had. The cherry on top is the fact that this 1967 Chevrolet Corvette L-88 Tribute is as clean as can be following a frame-off restoration, and the only way you can really tell this isn't a true L-88 is by the price tag.

A legit L-88 Corvette sold for $3.85 million at Barrett-Jackson back in 2014, but Volo Cars is selling this one for $155,998 against an appraised value of $175,000. Imitation might be the sincerest form of flattery, but you can't argue with an authentic, detail-oriented tribute car like that saves you over $3 million!
