Documented as a real GT born with a Cobra Jet motor.

Volo Auto Museum is pleased to announce this super rare and beautiful 1972 Ford Ranchero GT for your consideration. This is a real GT equipped with the Cobra Jet engine, four-speed manual transmission, and Posi rear end. It was restored in 2011 as part of a Ford dealer’s collection. This vehicle is essentially a car-based pickup truck, and you’ll see why in the photos. Due to revised styling and some engine availability changes in 1970, the Ranchero began transforming into more of a personal luxury truck.

This stunning black Ranchero GT sports a striking grille up front that looks like an air intake on a jet. It also has a GT scooped hood, sport mirrors, optional bumper guards, and five-spoke wheels. The body is really straight down the sides and across the hood; it’s in excellent condition. The black paint is pristine and nearly mirror-like; it looks like you could dive right in. The front and back bumper has been re-chromed and the door jambs are painted gloss black. Inside the bed is very clean and straight with lustrous black paint as well. What’s more, the tailgate opens and closes very smoothly and without issue.

Open the doors and you’ll find that this 1927 Ford Ranchero GT has a sporty interior. There are two bucket seats and a full-length console in between them. There is also storage space behind the seats, where you will also find a jack assembly. The dashboard houses full instrumentation, including a tachometer. Of course, there is also a four-speed sitting there on the floor with a Hurst shifter and a white ball. The door panels are pristine, and the visors, carpet, and upholstery are all new.

The heart and soul of this Ranchero GT is the original 351 Cobra Jet engine. Volo verified that the car's Vin is on the back of the motor. This car fires right up, runs strong, and displays no issues. It has been upgraded with an aluminum intake, a big dual-feed electric Holley carb, and HEI ignition. Other features include power steering and brakes. Open the hood at your local car show and watch as spectators ooh and ahh at the dressed up engine bay with those nice Ford Motorsport aluminum valve covers. The underhood area is also painted gloss black to match the through-and-through color scheme.

The underside of this car also appears to be very solid. The floors, rockers, and frame rails are all clean. This Ranchero GT also has the optional competition suspension, which includes sway bars. The original four-speed also looks fresh and shifts just as it should. This model also retains its original rear end with 3.25 traction-lok. A tantalizing sound is emitted from the exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers that is sure to turn heads.

When Volo got this car on the lift and found out that it’s a documented real deal GT, they were ecstatic. This example is documented with a Marti Elite report. While there is no paint code, it does say that it wears special paint. El Camino and Ranchero lovers, alike, know just how special this car really is; and you may soon find out as well! The current asking price is set at $32,998, and you can make an offer on the car right here.
