You don’t have to break the bank to own a classic.

Because they grab headlines, everyone always hears about cars which sell for as much or more than the average house in your area. While it’s great to have held onto one of those from the time it was new, trying to acquire something like that today requires considerable assets. If you’re on the search for a more affordable classic car, this 1951 Ford Custom is a good option to consider. Offered at $20,000, it went through a body-off restoration back in 2007, while retaining the original look of the exterior and interior.

And what a good-looking car this is. With World War II done, Ford turned its attention back to making consumer vehicles. The Custom was the Blue Oval’s first all-new car after the war, and it made a huge impression. An aerodynamic design, Art Deco touches like that amazing hood ornament, and plenty of chrome showed how Americans were feeling pretty good about life.

Upon close inspection, it’s obvious this Ford has been enjoyed. The paint is overall in good condition and shines up nicely, but you’ll note some chips and small blemishes in some spots. Also looking good is the chrome. Other details include the classic split windshield, stylized Ford crest on the front of the hood, and steel wheels painted Red to match the body, with moon hubcaps bearing the “F” logo.

The interior is straight out of the 1950s, despite having been reworked. White vinyl and red broadcloth adorn the seats and door panels, which also feature a maroon lower panel. Original gauges and controls are set in the gray dash, while fresh red carpeting adds even more richness.

You’ll find a restored 239ci V8 under the hood of this car. It works with a 2bbl carb and a 3-speed manual transmission with overdrive. While not dressed up much, the engine bay is clean and corrosion-free. This Ford Custom is fun to drive and ready to go. If you’re interested in making an offer, contact Classic Auto Mall.
