A ground-up resto by one of the most respected MG specialists.

RAND Luxury is pleased to announce this stunning classic 1949 MG TC for your consideration. The MG TC is arguably one of the most iconic classic English sports cars, simply because it initiated the post-WWII sports car phenomenon in America. The MG TC made a splash in 1945 as American servicemen returned home from the war. The TC was the third T-Series variation, following the TA of 1936, and short-lived TB of 1939. The body of the TC was four inches wider than its predecessors, and it was also faster than the TA and TB models.

The MG TC you see here was built in September 1949. The chassis number is TC9789, making it one of the last of 10,251 built. This iconic TC is estimated to go for $35,000-$45,000 when it crosses the auction block as lot #137. You can register to bid on this beautiful British Green sports car right here.

This beauty was treated to a comprehensive ground-up restoration, including all new sub-frame wood over several years in Michigan; great attention was paid to period originality. A majority of the work, including the engine re-build, was carried out by University Motors of Grand Rapids MI, one of the largest and most respected MG specialists in the country; documentation is included with the sale. The car sits dressed in its original British Racing Green on fresh chrome 19-inch wheels by Dayton. That, along with the rare original “U” lenses really help set this TC apart.

All of the original instruments are functional and surrounded by a refinished wood dashboard. The turn signals have been fitted to the original side/brake light fixtures with a control on the dash. This example is currently fitted with a 14-inch Moto-Lita aluminum/wood rim steering wheel, which is very comfortable for tall drivers. The original 17-inch steering wheel is in excellent condition and comes with the sale of this car. Even the floor carpets are fresh and feature the MG octagon logo. Also included with the sale is a useful and period-correct luggage rack and badge bar with four badges.

Pop the hood and you’ll find a pristine engine bay that is neat and clean. The motor features polished aluminum valve and side covers, as well as the original polished aluminum air filter manifold. The Owners' Manual, and several books including (The T Series Handbook, The 'T' Series MG, MG by McComb, The Magic of MG, and The Immortal T Series), and the original hand crank, which has never been used, are also included.

This 1949 MG TC has been privately owned since February 2012 and has not been offered for sale until now. This example won First Place in the Antique Car Restorers Club show for the previous owner and its trophy is also included in the purchase. The car fires right up, runs smoothly, and is a dream to drive. It is driven regularly, yet sparingly, to maintain its drivability. There are just 10,600 miles clocked on the odometer, which is believed to be the mileage since the restoration. Don’t miss your chance to own one of the most iconic British sports cars ever made. It will make a valuable addition to your garage!
