This is one of the best-known American muscle cars out there.

If you’ve been searching high and low for a special car to put in your garage, this very well might be that one in a thousand moment. After all, it’s not every day you run across a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 in pristine condition. This one packs a numbers-matching DZ-code 302ci V8, paired with a numbers-matching, close-ratio Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission. That setup is optimal for pulse-pounding performance, while the date-coded 4.10 posi rear helps with clean launches off the line.

Thanks to a professional respray, the Cortez Silver and Black stripes look gorgeous, plus those are the colors this car wore when it rolled off the assembly line. You’ll note the rear spoiler and cowl hood are both missing, thanks to factory deletes the original owner opted for, making this Z/28 a little more unique. All the other factory details are present, including the 15-inch wheels and all the badges.

A classic black interior goes extremely well with the Cortez Silver exterior, plus it adheres to the original setup as well. While some elements have been replaced, such as the carpeting and seat upholstery, the replacement materials are close to what was installed in the factory. All the original controls and gauges are still in place, including the AM radio, something many people gleefully tossed and replaced with a more modern unit back in the day. It’s obvious the original owner cared deeply for this car, going to great lengths to preserve it.

While the Camaro was launched by GM in 1967, in 1969 it released the track-oriented Z/28, which was created to compete in the new Trans-Am race series. It also would hit back at the Shelby Mustangs, showing that the Camaro could also be hopped up for impressive performance. Just how you view this legendary car depends on your brand allegiances, but there’s no denying its importance in automotive history. For that reason alone, snatching this Z/28 would be a wise move, since it’s destined to continue appreciating in value. If you’re interested in owning it, you can talk to Streetside Classics about the details.
