This American classic is very much available.

Everyone knows the 1950s was a time of bold optimism for the United States, and nowhere was that embodied more than in vehicle designs. That’s what makes this 1956 Buick Special Custom so much fun. Lacking the brashness of the latter part of the decade like pronounced tailfins and acres upon acres of chrome, this car strikes an excellent balance between creative styling and sophisticated simplicity in design.

Just look at that two-tone Green exterior. You won’t see another car like this for hundreds of miles, or maybe not at all, it’s just that unique. Both the darker and lighter colors look excellent with a deep shine and few if any blemishes visible. Light pinstriping on the hood is a nice touch. All the chrome on the bumpers, headlight brows, side mirrors, etc. is absolutely mirror-like. Flowing lines, Dagmar bumpers, and those characteristic three ventiports on both front fenders work together to make this Buick even more of a standout.

More than just a looker, this car really moves with its 455ci Buick V8 and Turbo 400 automatic transmission. It’s also not a chore to drive, thanks to power steering and power disc brakes. Use this car to cruise through town on the main drag or hit the open road and feel all the power unleased.

The interior has some nice custom touches like the upholstery on both bench seats and door panels. You also get the convenience of power windows and air conditioning, although it needs to be serviced before next summer.

Not everyone wants a project car, making this turn-key Buick a good fit. It’s not overly expensive at $31,500 considering it’s advertised as running strong and having everything done. After all, turn-key classic cars can be quite expensive these days. And with prices recently on the rise for Buick Specials, the chances you’ll find a car like this again could be shrinking by the day.
