This Camaro competed in the Optima Search For The Ultimate Street Car, and still has plenty of life left in it.

There are plenty of purpose-built track cars out there, but they tend to have little – if any – road manners when it comes to driving on the street. That's where events like the Optima Search For The Ultimate Street Car comes into play creating a competitive series for amateurs to find the best street-legal performance cars. The pro-touring 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 you see here competed in the 2019 Daytona event, and it's currently up for sale through Classic Car Liquidators.

While this might look like just another flashy '79 Camaro, this car has been fully modified for track duty. In terms of design, this Camaro Z28 received steel wide-body fenders that can fit 335-series tires – the car is currently wearing 315s on 18x12-inch Forgestar wheels. The fiberglass hood mimics the look of an L88 Corvette with a vented insert pulled from a fifth-gen (2010-15) Camaro SS. Inside, you'll find everything required for racing including roll cage, racing bucket seats, five-point racing harness, Sparco quick-release steering wheel, but this 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is still designed for cruising as proven by the fact that it still has air condition.

Backing up its looks, this Camaro is a legit pro-touring car with adjustable coilovers, double wishbone front suspension with road race spindles, a custom three-link rear suspension and four-wheel disc brakes. Under the hood is a modified 360 CID small-block Chevy V8 that still runs on pump gas, and it features AFR aluminum heads, Edelbrock aluminum intake, Holley carb and MSD ignition; for added reliability, the aftermarket aluminum radiator features dual electric fans. This pro-touring Z28 even has a Winter's quick-charge rear end!
