Barrett-Jackson Charity Auction Cars Raise Nearly $7.6M

Charity auctions are a great way to raise some serious money for important causes, and the bright lights and big crowds at Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale auction always bring impressive donation vehicles. This year, nine amazing vehicles cross the auction block to benefit charities both nationwide and local to Arizona, and the vehicles are as diverse as the charities with everything from a Jeff Gordon racecar to the two first-production modern cars and a handful of custom classics. In the end, these nine cars ended up raising a total of $7.575 million!

1968 Plymouth GTX

This 1968 Plymouth GTX is basically a reality television star having been designed by Chip Foose and modified on the show Graveyard Carz, and it ended up hammering for $300,000. All of the proceeds will go to the C4 Foundation, which provides support and services to Navy Seals and their families. This foundation honors the legacy of Charles Humphrey Keating IV, a heroic Navy SEAL who died in battle back in 2016.

1981 Jeep CJ-7

Gas Monkey Garage is responsible for creating this semi-custom Jeep CJ-7 with a four-inch lift, modern interior and a patriotic paint job. This Jeep sold for $425,000, which goes to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona. Make-A-Wish was founded in Phoenix, Arizona 40 years ago, and they help critically ill children live out their wishes.

1997 Chevrolet Monte Carlo NASCAR racecar

Jeff Gordon's DuPont livery is one of the most recognizable in NASCAR's history, and this particular Chevrolet Monte Carlo played a significant part in the Hall of Fame driver's career. This was the racecar Gordon piloted to his first ever road race at Watkins Glen in 1997, and it was retired in 1999. The $250,000 raised from the sale of this iconic racecar will go to the Arizona Animal Welfare League – Arizona's oldest no-kill animal shelter.

2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible VIN 001

In addition to custom and classic cars, some new cars also present good opportunities for automakers to raise money for charity. One example of this is the all-new 2021 Lexus LC 500 Convertible, which commanded $2 million for the very first production model (VIN 001) with unique touches. Proceeds from this lot will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of America and the Bob Woodruff Foundation.

2020 Chevrolet COPO Camaro John Force Edition

Chevrolet has built 552 COPO Camaros since 2012 (69 each year), but one extra is being built for the 2020 model year. This 70th COPO Camaro is a one-off creation based on the new John Force Edition, and it raised $600,000 to benefit DonorsChoose.org, which is a charity that helps teachers and students across the U.S.

1963 Volvo Amazon Custom Coupe

What happens when you combine a classic Volvo with a late-model Corvette Grand Sport? You get this incredibly custom 1963 Volvo Amazon. The exterior has been heavily customized, and it's powered by a the Corvette's 7.0-liter LS7 V8. The hammer price of $150,000 will go to the SEMA Memorial Scholarship Fund.

1974 Ford Bronco

One of the coolest of the charity auction vehicles is this customized 1974 Ford Bronco, which was built by Gateway Bronco for the Ryan Blaney Family Foundation. This auction topped out at $650,000, and these proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association.

2020 Chevrolet Corvette VIN 001

There will be plenty of important C8 Corvettes to debut over the generation of this car, but none will be more noteworthy than the very first production-intent version – VIN 001. This car raised $3 million, and that will all go to the Detroit Children's Fund.

1965 Shelby Cobra by Superformance

Another custom car created for Barrett-Jackson's charity auctions was this glow-in-the-dark Superformance Shelby Cobra replica. This custom Cobra features a show-stopping paint job, and it raised $200,000 to benefit colon and prostate cancer research at the Phoneix-based Translational Genomics Research Institute (TGen).
