The plan is to produce a limited-run of an updated version of this nostalgic movie car.

The DeLorean DMC-12 was best known for its starring role in Back to the Future as a plutonium-powered time machine that sent teenager Marty McFly 30 years into the past. Invented by eccentric scientist Doc Brown, the car could travel through time once it hit 88 miles per hour. Fans of the 1985 film may be happy to hear that DeLorean Motor Company revealed plans to Hagerty about producing a limited run of brand new DeLorean DMC-12s.

The original DeLorean was sold between 1981 and 1983, and this limited new version will feature some improvements. Besides the addition of upgraded headlights, the body design likely won't stray far from the original. The car wasn't exactly a performance machine, so this time around the car will be stuffed with an engine capable of 350-horsepower, a number that is more than double the output of the original V6. Of course, it will probably have modern audio components and a modernized interior.

The earliest for new production to begin on the DeLorean is early 2021, and production will likely be super limited with likely just pumping out just one or two a week. If interested, make sure to keep an eye on the company to ensure your spot to bring home a piece of '80s nostalgia.

Passed in 2015, the Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act is making this new DeLorean production possible. Although, SEMA had a big role in this due to a lawsuit against the NHTSA had them implement some changes and new regulations. This means that classic cars can be reproduced today, and that includes the iconic DMC-12.

Great news for Back to the Future fans with a love for the stainless steel bodied DeLorean DMC-12. While production is still a ways out, be sure to keep up with the DeLorean Motor Company and see how soon you can get on the list to relive your childhood.
