Just like with many pace cars, this one features lettering down the side which declare it’s the official pace car for the 54th annual Indy 500. Since this car was produced by Oldsmobile at the height of the muscle car wars, it really delivers a punch with the 455ci V8, 4bbl carb, TH400 automatic transmission, and 12-bolt rear with a 3.23:1 ratio. Considering only 264 were ever made, and this one has been thoroughly restored, it’s a great pace car to consider.
Proudly representing the start of the fourth -gen or SN95 Mustangs is this SVT Cobra. It was the official car for the Indy 500. Instead of choosing a coupe, Ford and race organizers selected a convertible with a fiery red paint job, which made a strong statement about the new retro-inspired design and performance improvements. SN95s are quickly appreciating in value, so this would be a good investment pace car.
Packing a 350ci V8 paired with a 4-speed Muncie manual, this ‘69 Chevy Camaro pace car not only looks cool, it can scoot in a hurry. That Dover White with Hugger Orange stripes pairs goes great with the Orange Houndstooth interior. Even if you’re not a Corvette fan, there’s no denying the performance of the C5. While the new generation debuted in 1997, it took until the following year for it to pace America’s biggest race. GM decided to not be subtle at all about the aesthetics, slapping on yellow wheels and graphics, plus using yellow seats, contrasting with the dark blue paint.
Not only does this American muscle car pack a 4.9-liter V8, it combines that with a Garrett turbo for 345 lb.-ft. of torque at a time when some thought the good times behind the wheel were gone forever. This Trans Am has the famous screaming eagle, plus door graphics, and a striking Oyster interior with Hobnail cloth and Deerskin vinyl that’s definitely a product of the era.
One of only 21 built for the Canadian market and the paperwork to prove it, this Camaro is one rare bird. It features the factory RS package and SS hood, Rally wheels, red line tires, white paint, blue stripes, plus the pace car graphics. The blue interior and rose wood steering wheel complete the show-stopping looks. There’s a nice 396ci V8 under the hood plus an automatic transmission.
