2019 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe
In 1951 a group of Harley Earl's "Special Projects" crew began work on a GM sports car. Bob McLean designed a general layout for the car which was originally code named, "Opel”. William Durant, the founder of GM, said a wallpaper pattern he saw in a Paris hotel in 1908 inspired the bow tie logo. Supposedly, he ripped off a small piece of it and brought it back to Detroit. Myron Scott, at the time Chevrolet's Chief photographer, is credited with coming up with the Corvette name, drawing from the small, fast warships of the "Corvette" class.
Fast forward to 2019, and we have a lucky find as the consigner does not have any room in his new garage due to a downsizing. With a mere 2,928 original miles clocked, the break in oil will need to be changed! Torch red, a removable top, plenty of added extras and 455 horses under the hood, you could be in the seat of the latest technology with a mere push of the starter button.
Exterior
At the top is a removable carbon roof panel that will let the sun and wind in if you so desire. Upfront are Xenon high intensity discharge lights, with LED parking and turn signal lights. There is also a sculpted carbon fiber hood, and plenty of Torch Red painted fiberglass to go around the entire car. Bringing up the rear are the quad grouping of centered tail pipes that resonate an engine concerto in E (for exhaust) flat. Snappy aluminum wheels with red brake calipers showing through are wrapped by summer only run flat tires in low profile.
Interior
Utilizing the keyless opener and starter fob, we enter the realm of sport luxury with the dual leather covered GT buckets with 8-way power adjustments. These seats are heated and ventilated and have special Corvette badges embroidered on them. A sculpted center console runs to the dash, and contains the shift lever, parking brake, and traction control toggle. A large screen projects the radio station, blue tooth music, phone info, Navi screen, info center, and the front bumper and rear backup cams. Dual zone A/C and heat can be had with the touch of a button on the screen, a heads-up digital speedo and tachometer are seen in front of the telescoping steering column with leather covering, multiple touch buttons, and flat bottom. Black carpet covers the floors and cargo area, and there is a sunscreen for the cargo area.
Drivetrain
An LT1 6.2-liter V8 DI/WT engine is under the flip forward hood. This has an 8-speed automatic transmission on back and can be actuated by paddles on the steering wheel. A 3.42 posi rear axle spins the wheels in back.
Undercarriage
Factory in a nutshell, stickers, no rust and all showroom under here. Speed sensing power steering, active suspension, and a multi-mode exhaust are just a few of the goodies on this car.
Drive-Ability
A new car is always fun to drive, especially a Corvette, so this one was a blast to take to the test track. It handles like a dream, accelerates to give your opponent nightmares, and has the sculptural lines of a sleeper, but NO WAY! In reality it's a sports car thoroughbred and runs as such.
One man's loss is another's gain as they say, and this virtually new Vette from 2019 is a dressed up and nowhere to go, so it graces our hallowed halls here at Classic Auto Mall. Why buy new when it is sitting right in front of you! Come on down and drool a bit before eating a piece of the GM pie.
