The Buick Gran Sport was the muscle car version of the Buick Century. The GM A-bodies were new for 1973, featuring the Colonnade styling. ... The four Gran Sport engine choices for the '73 line-up included either a 175 net horsepower 2-bbl 350 CID V8 or a 190 net horsepower 4-bbl 350 CID V8.
As for the GS models, during the 1973--74 model years, Buick dropped the GS "model," in favor of a Gran Sport "sub-series" that in its base form included nothing more than a set of tape stripes and a blacked-out grille, at least for the first year. And it is Gran Sport; the GS acronym is only officially used on the 1967 to 1972 GSs. As a side note, there were Gran Sports available in 1975, but literally as a $171 trim package, and only with the 231-cu.in. V-6 and 350 V-8.
In standard form, the Gran Sport was austere, featuring the same vinyl bench seat and column-shifted three-speed automatic transmission as the Century four-door your Aunt Sally would have driven to church. At the very base level, the Gran Sport series included an electric clock, wheel arch moldings, a better level of gauges, and glovebox, ashtray and courtesy lamps.
Gran Sports were built in relatively small numbers. In 1973, just 6,637 were assembled, of which only 979 were 455-powered cars.
