Engine Options:
The turbocharged V-6 engine was the star of the show. It bumped the horsepower from 105 to 165 on the 231-cubic-inch V-6. This engine was installed in the Regal Sport Coupe.
If you opted for the entry-level or Limited trims, you could choose between two naturally aspirated V-6s or a two- or four-barrel 305-cubic-inch V-81.
Less than 10 percent of Regals were equipped with the turbo engine.
Design and Evolution:
The 1986 Buick Regal underwent several changes over the years. In 1981, it received a more streamlined restyle.
Initially offered only as a two-door coupe, a sedan and station wagon briefly joined the lineup.
The biggest transformation occurred in 1984 with the introduction of the Buick Grand National, a menacing blacked-out version with performance enhancements and overdrive.

Performance:
The intercooler system on the '86 Turbo Regal provided an impressive 18-percent increase in power and a 10-percent gain in torque over the non-intercooled 1985 model.
The base engine was a 2-barrel carbureted 110-hp version of the same 231-cubic-inch V6.
You could also opt for a 140-hp 4-barrel-equipped, 307-cubic-inch, Oldsmobile-built V82.
