This U.S. Model 1976 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser 4x4 is a scarce fine. Clean, rust free and original. There are not many left like this one.
Professionally maintained, lovingly owned and stored. The consignor is selling do to heath reasons. This is your chance to own a spectacular FJ40. She has much documentation from new, confirming the low mileage and maintenance.
This scarce example has it all: US Model, with all US options like big 2F motor, 4 speed transmission, 3 speed transfer case, factory roll bar, power discs brakes, front buckets, rear folding jump seats, original AM radio, best of all she has Power Steering and twice the full with an auxiliary Fuel tank, and Warn Winch, US door jam VIN plate, plus much more…
The vehicle is described as mostly original with some upgrades, including a mild lift kit, power steering, auxiliary fuel tank, and Warn winch. The consignor explains this FJ40 has been lovingly, lightly used weekend pleasure drives, not off-road, and keeping it garaged when not in use.
Back in 2008 the FJ40 had a restoration repaint and added some updates, which are highlighted in the sections below. Documented mechanical work done by Proffitt's Resurrection Land Cruisers in Delta, Colorado included thorough engine and carburetor tune-up, and a rebuilt front end with new locking hubs. The seller has included nine videos to assess the vehicle.
The Toyota 2F 4.2-liter OHV inline-six was rated at 135 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of peak torque by the manufacturer when new. The engine is original, not rebuilt with low miles, and that it starts on the first or second turn of the key using 3/4 to full manual choke and a little gas. The idle is smooth and without smoke. She is tight and clean, with a rare drip from the transmission/engine, and no leaks or weeps from the differentials. The consignor uses Amsoil engine lubricants. The four-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly through all gears, and the dual-range transfer case operates properly, he states.
A majority of the hoses and fuel lines have been replaced. He indicates a recent Interstate AGM battery and new cables, plus installation of a kill switch. She has an auxiliary fuel tank upgrade and had car restoration shop install a matching fuel door, giving it a seamless look and allow easier access.
In 2008 the FJ40 had a body-on restoration repaint, in Cygnus White, “looks nice, with minor scratches and touch ups, mostly related to removal and re-installation of the hard top.” The bumpers and front bezel have been powder-coated. The headlights are upgraded LED headlights, which are far brighter than the original sealed-beam headlamps. The vehicle has the original removable hard top, now fitted with a new seal, other seals are good. The winch is a 9,000 pound top of the line WARN electric winch with remote.
Beautiful original interior, "in order to retain the vehicle's history and character and o show that it still has the original body metal." The original front and rear seats were reupholstered in dark gray vinyl and remain near perfect, with light wear. She also has, replaced shifter boots.
The original headliner is in good condition, with a couple of minor sags. Many of the upgrades include sound- and heat-resistant under-layment and floor-mat in the FJ40. The heater works well. All gauges are working and are easier to see with aftermarket LED backlighting. The original AM radio and single speaker are said to still work, and this is documented in a video below. Modifications include replacing the original center console with a lockable Tuffy console; for all weather driving the under carriage was cleaned and sprayed Dupont undercoating and installing an under-dash fuel gauge for the auxiliary tank using an existing bolt location, with no alteration of the surrounding metal.
Recently a top Land Cruiser shop: Profitt's Resurrection Land Cruisers of Colorado did“ substantial” suspension upgrades, including a 2.5” new shackle lift, new bushing and shocks.
After they installed five new 30x9.50R15LT Toyo Open Country A/T III tires, now have an estimated 2,000 miles of use. The steel wheels were powder coated, and they appear in excellent condition. She runs and rides smoothly, there are no vibrations when driving. She also had a most important upgrade: Power Steering, there are no leaks and that the steering tracks straight. The brakes are all serviced, front disc/rear drum brakes had been replaced, and they work well with no noise.
The FJ40 comes with a clear title and will include the original manuals and sales brochure and maintenance notebook + receipts. This U.S Model 1976 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser 4x4 appears to have been lovingly maintained by its owners, and there is documentation to support that.
