This 1981 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ43 Convertible w/Steel Hardtop was acquired in Germany and was imported to be the base for an over-the-top custom restoration. 3 years later she has has a 110% nut & bolt re-engineered, in 2016 by Metal Works Classic Auto Restoration of Eugene, Oregon. The body was repaired and refinished in metallic brown, and a GM 6.2-liter LS3 V8 was installed along with a 4L60e four-speed automatic transmission and a dual-range transfer case.

The truck is equipped with Corbeau front seats upholstered in black as well as Vintage Air climate control, a Tuffy center console, a bolt-in roll bar, an Old Man Emu suspension kit, four-wheel disc brakes, Sanderson exhaust headers, and MSD engine and transmission control units. This FJ43 is now offered on dealer consignment with refurbishment records and a clean Arizona title.
The two-door FJ43 is medium-wheelbase version of the FJ40, and this example was refinished in metallic brown with black accents and a white roof by Restored FJ40 in Lincoln City. The truck features a removable hardtop along with a front winch, a receiver hitch, a fold-down windshield, rear ambulance-style doors, and fender-mounted turn signals. Equipment added during the 2016 refurbishment work include a steel front bumper with a Warn winch as well as a fabricated rear bumper mounted with a Kaymar spare tire carrier and a storage rack housing fuel and water cans.
Polished 15″ Mickey Thompson wheels are mounted with 31×10.5″ BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires. The truck is equipped with an Old Man Emu suspension lift kit, and braking is handled by power-assisted four-wheel discs utilizing a Wilwood master cylinder.
The interior features Corbeau front bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl upholstery along with folding rear jump seats. The floors are covered in a textured bedliner coating, and equipment includes a locking center console, Vintage Air climate control, a bolt-in roll bar, and front retractable shoulder belts.
The aftermarket wood steering wheel frames a Dakota Digital instrument panel with a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and auxiliary gauges. The digital odometer indicates approximately 500 miles. Total chassis mileage is unknown.
The new GM 6.2-liter LS3 V8 Crate Motor utilizes an MSD Atomic EFI system, throttle body, and engine control module. In addition has custom MSD the fuel-rail covers are painted to match the body, and additional equipment includes a custom air intake assembly, an aluminum radiator, an electric cooling fan, and coated Sanderson exhaust headers Power is routed to the rear or all four wheels through a 4L60e four-speed automatic transmission and a rebuilt dual-range transfer case. An MSD transmission control module is mounted to the firewall, and a compressor for the ARB air lockers is housed in the rear cargo area. No expense was spared.
