Cruisin Classics is proud to present to you this 1971 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. This stunning 1st generation Monte Carlo has undergone a frame-off restoration and is even cooler than it was when it rolled off the assembly line! This car was originally Cranberry Red with a white vinyl top, but now it wears a high-driver-quality full-body maroon paint job that really grabs your eye as it gleams in the light. Up front is a thin hood spear with a vertical “Chevrolet” script ornament sitting above a bright chromed rectangular grille with a red “knight's crest” badge at its center. Flanking the grille are round headlights with chrome “eye-lids” set in bright bezels and beneath is a mirror-finish chrome bumper with integrated rectangular turn signal indicators. Brightwork continues on the sides of the car with wheel lip molding, rocker molding, dual chrome side mirrors, window trim, drip rail molding, and door edge guards. Around the back are thin vertical chrome-trimmed taillights that are situated half in the bumper and half in the body of the car – a cool look. The rear bumper sports the same fine finish as the one up front, and this one has integrated reverse lights and a license plate holder that folds down to reveal a hidden gas fill. Peaking out from beneath the bumper are dual chrome exhaust tips. The trunk lid features a Monte Carlo badge and another red “knight's crest” badge that doubles as the keyhole to open the trunk. This whole beautiful package rolls down the road on a set of silver factory Rally wheels with center caps and beauty rings all wrapped in white letter BF Goodrich Radial T/A's – a perfect complement to the car!
Lift the big hood to find a tidy black engine bay that was originally home to a 350 V-8 with a 2-barrel carburetor. The original engine is gone now and has been replaced with a 383 Stroker that was built by Box Performance here in Ohio, and according to the most recent owner it puts out 500hp (unfortunately, we have no paperwork for the engine build). The big orange V-8 is topped off with aluminum “Chevrolet” valve covers, an air-gap intake, a 4-barrel Edelbrock carburetor, and a chrome air cleaner. Other notable highlights include a polished alternator, an aluminum radiator, working 134A air conditioning, power steering with a new steering box, newer under-hood matting, and MSD ignition. Exhaust flows through Headman headers and Magnaflow mufflers to exit the rear with an awesome sound. Stopping power is provided by power front discs and rear drums. The 383 sends power to the rear via a 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission and a 10-bolt rear end with a chrome rear cover. This drivetrain combo allows for comfortable freeway driving while still having the ability to light up the tires when you want to.
When you open the driver's door a working dome courtesy light comes on to illuminate a very nice black interior. The door panels appear OEM correct with pull handles, armrests (showing light wear), and window cranks on a mix of black vinyl and carpet with bright trim pieces. The front bucket seats are in excellent condition and look new with black OEM-style black vinyl skins. Separating the front seats is a center console with a storage box, a correct horseshoe shifter to match the 4-speed automatic transmission, and burled woodgrain trim. This Monte Carlo was originally built with a bench seat and a column shifter, but we feel that the bucket seat/console look is far superior. Ahead of the seats is a crack-free black vinyl dash with a burled woodgrain gauge & instrument bezel. On the left side of the cluster is a knob for the lights and a switch for the 2-speed hideaway wipers – which are inoperable. Ahead of the front passenger is a glovebox with the original owner's manual. Overhead is a tight black vinyl headliner and shoulder belts, and underfoot is a newer black hook & loop carpet. Back in the carpeted trunk, you'll find a set of black carpeted floormats, a spare tire on a Rally wheel with a carpeted cover, and a factory jack. Also included with the car are the original build sheet, some receipts, and some photos of the restoration.
