1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Convertible
Imagine tooling down the blue highway in a 1970's classic, BUT being kissed by the sun, with the wind in your hair. The Olds Cutlass described within will allow you to romanticize about that drive, as well as about quality of build, and the new decade of muscle and metal. But while doing so you would be remiss about design as well. Like the sharp curved blade it is named for, the Cutlass will cut through the air even if you are driving it on the edge.
15 years ago, this Oldsmobile received a total restoration. Though not frame off, all panels were stripped, straightened, and repainted, and carefully re assembled to exacting standards. Gaps are straight, as well as interior redux and motor rebuild, a true Oldsmobile aficionado painstakingly did the work, and the fruits of his labor can be seen in this “cherry” Cutlass Convertible.
Exterior
The closest thing to Aspen Green color coats the very nice straight paneled exterior of this auto. Contrasting Camel and Blood Orange pin striping runs the length of the belt. Brightwork is at the skirt and presents in beautiful condition. Original matching Olds mag wheels adorned by BF Goodrich Radial T/A's are seen all around. Chrome Bumpers with rear iconic Olds inserted taillights and front imbedded signals run the width of the car on each end. A camel convertible top, fully operational with the flip of a switch, glides up and down smoothly, and is in very good condition.
Interior
Probably the highlight of this car is the effort put into the restored interior. Waves of green vinyl, stitched, buttoned, and chrome accented, cover a front bench seat with split back and armrests in the center. A rear bench with plenty of room to spare invites extra passengers to enjoy the outside air as well. If bad weather is around, bring the top up, and enjoy the factory air! Burl faux wood veneers, along with more stitched vinyl front the door panels, as well as the dash. Power window controls at each seat wind windows up and down quickly and smoothly. A joystick remote is seen to adjust the driver's side door mounted mirror. Also, kudos to the original Cutlass rubber floor mats seen over the very nice green carpeting.
Drivetrain
An Olds Rocket 350ci V8 rebuilt and restored sits in the vast, clean engine compartment. A Rochester 2-barrel carburetor feeds the engine, which throws power back to a 3-speed turbo Hydramatic automatic transmission. Stopping is milky and is done with 4-wheel drum brakes. The underside of this car is very clean, rustproofed, and very sound.
A ground up restoration performed 15 years ago and garaged since, this car is in beautiful 38-year-old condition. No stone left unturned, it starts immediately, and drives like you just drove it off the dealership lot.
