Just some car guys having fun.

With the 2019 Monterey Car Week upon us, there are surely going to be some serious cars being auctioned off, but that doesn't mean there isn't a little fun to be had. Olympian Cars gathered up seven industry veterans to choose their top three favorite vehicles up for auction this week by Bonhams, RM Sotheby's and Gooding & Company, and the cars were selected not necessarily by rarity or value (although these cars are extremely rare and valuable) but rather by their "gotta have" factor.

If you can't think of anything more fun than a racecar, there are some incredible specimens that will be crossing the auction block – Monterey even has its own vintage car races to enjoy! Out of the many racecars that will be featured, three were chosen for this list. Niki Lauda's 1975 Ferrari 312T Formula 1 racecar is definitely the most impressive, and it will be the first time this car will be auctioned off. Joining Lauda's Ferrari are the 1913 Isotta Fraschini Tipo IM and 1978 BMW 320i IMSA Turbo.

These cars alone show the diversity of offerings at Monterey, but that isn't exclusive to cars with racing history. You will see just about everything from pre-war cars like the Auburn 12-160A Boattail Speedster to art deco cars like the beautiful Jaguar XK120 Alloy Roadster and even late-model cars like the 1994 McLaren F1 LM Spec, which is expected to sell for between $21 million and $23 million. One of the absolute coolest cars that will be up for auction, though, is the 1965 Ford GT40 Roadster prototype. Interestingly, but not too surprising, three of the eight men chose the same 1935 Riley MPH and three Duesenbergs also made the list.
