This is about the last thing you’d expect for a rat rod, and it works.

There are plenty of ways to stand out from the crowd. One you should definitely consider is riding low and slow in this 1985 Jeep CJ7 Rat Rod. It just screams patriotism and rugged individuality, as long as you stick to roads. Finding something with as much flair and uniqueness is definitely a tall order.

One of the first things you see is the exposed 350ci V8 engine, pushing way more power than what this Jeep originally came with. Attached to it is a Dart II Sportsman intake manifold, Holley 4bbl carb, and wrapped long-tube headers with side-exit exhausts. A TH350 automatic transmission has the strength to handle all that power, while a big Champion aluminum radiator and electric fan help guard against overheating, just to be on the safe side of things.

Of course, the military design theme for this Jeep works great, considering it’s a descendant of the vehicle that helped win a world war. Tan is commonly used in desert warfare, while the black and white decals show up great. The lowered, chopped appearance is also a nice mixture of old-school hot rods and the creations in Mad Max movies, so you’re guaranteed to get lots of open-mouthed stares. It took a custom chassis to achieve this look, with a simulated patina on areas that are exposed. Accentuating the lowered stance are big wheels pushed to the corners. Of course, keeping the seven-slot grille and round headlights up front instantly lets everyone know this is a Jeep.

The interior is loaded with some interesting features, like the flat-bottom Grant steering wheel and B&M floor shifter. Low-back bucket seats hearken to the Jeep CJ5, while bedliner covers the floors. Dash, and transmission tunnel. Instead of a center console, there’s a black ammo box. Aftermarket gauges and controls are clustered together in the center stack, so everything is easy to reach.
