Restored 1956 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery Hammers For $30.8K

Back before vans and SUVs became popular, two-door wagons like this 1956 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery were the best way to transport goods in an enclosed environment. Although the Courier Sedan Delivery might have the look of a work vehicle, this is restored example is really a muscle car in disguise, and it recently sold at Mecum's 2020 Kissimmee auction event through Orlando Classic Cars for a seemingly affordable $30,800.

Despite being an older restoration (about 10 years old), this delivery wagon is in amazing condition with smooth paint, beautiful chrome and even flawless glass. The two-tone paint work gives this 1956 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery the look of a true work vehicle with an understated off-white body with bright red accents including the red steel wheels.

The interior is just as clean with the front bucket seats looking brand new, and the flooring, headliner and cargo area liner in amazing shape. From the door jambs to the engine compartment, you can tell that this restoration was intense and thorough.

While this 1956 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery came from the factory with a 272 CID V8, this hot rod station wagon was upgraded with a period correct 312 CID E-code Thunderbird V8 that has been built up a little with dual four-barrel carbs and solid lifters. The engine is backed by a column-mounted three-speed manual transmission, which should make delivery wagon haul more than cargo!

The Courier Sedan Delivery was essentially a Ford Parklane with no rear side windows, and the Parklane was a two-door version of the Ranch Wagon. Considering that less than 9,000 examples of the 1956 Ford Courier Sedan Delivery were ever made, finding an example in this condition is increasingly rare.
